The first crab of the season arrived today on what also happened to be the coldest day of the year (morning temperatures around 22 degrees F). Crews took on the crab like pros, not skipping a beat to get into the rhythm of processing and cooking Dungeness all over again.
The pictures here show the crew hard at work sorting, butchering and cooking crab that has been the cornerstone of Ocean Gold’s business since the brand was established on current company president Dennis Rydman’s crab boat off the coast of Florida in the mid-1980s.
Given that history, it was fitting that this season’s first delivery of crab came from the Anna Marie, a vessel owned and operated by Dennis’ oldest son, Mark Rydman.
