Ocean Companies Award Two Scholarships to Local High School Graduates
Ocosta and Hoquiam High School students each awarded $1,000 scholarship

WESTPORT, WASH – June 2, 2010 – As the school year draws to a close, the Ocean Companies are proud to support local high school graduates with two scholarship awards. Presented through the Grays Harbor Community Foundation, the family of Ocean Companies, including Ocean Gold Seafoods, Ocean Cold, Ocean Protein and Ocean Express, selected two recipients for this year’s award.

Elizabeth Atkinson from Ocosta High School is graduating with a near perfect 3.97 GPA. She plans to attend Central Washington University to pursue a degree in music education.

Tiffany Creswell from Hoquiam High School is the recipient of Ocean Protein’s third scholarship to that school. With a 3.57 GPA, Creswell plans to attend Grays Harbor Community College to pursue a career in Dentistry.

Both Atkinson and Creswell represent the essence of “strong community” – one of the cornerstone philosophies of the Ocean Companies. In addition to their scholastic and athletic success, both students have been active community participants volunteering through their local church and other civic groups.

“With young leaders like these,” explained Ocean Gold Seafood’s president Dennis Rydman, “our county has a bright future.”

In addition to the scholarship program, the Ocean Companies is passionate about supporting local community development with additional sponsorships with the Pirate Daze, upcoming beach cleanup activities, Ocosta High School Football team and other ongoing support.

“Building a strong community with good jobs and a commitment to clean oceans works toward our larger goal which is to Keep Grays Harbor Fishing,” added Rydman.
